Missed Contraceptive Pills: Get Advice for the Exact Product
The advice after a missed contraceptive pill depends on the type of pill, how many were missed and where you are in the pack. One rule does not safely cover every product.

Have the packet ready
Check the name and whether it is a combined or progestogen-only pill. Note when the last active pill was taken, how many were missed and whether unprotected sex occurred.
The linked NHS guidance concerns the combined pill. It should not be applied automatically to a different pill or to a product with different instructions.
Ask promptly about pregnancy protection
A pharmacist or clinician can advise whether emergency contraception or additional protection is needed and how to continue the pack. Follow the product leaflet and professional advice rather than combining instructions from several online sources.
If vomiting, severe diarrhoea or another medicine may have affected the pill, mention this too.
Prevent a repeated problem without blame
Ask whether a reminder, a change in routine or another contraceptive method would suit you better. Forgetting pills is a practical issue to solve, not a reason to avoid asking for help.
Before ending the conversation, confirm when normal protection resumes and whether a pregnancy test is advised. Keep the instructions with the packet so you can follow them accurately. If you remain unsure, use additional protection and obtain timely clarification rather than making an assumption that could leave you unprotected.
